In December 1971, a businessman and his two employees were killed over 120 gold bars.

One of the masterminds of the crime was Andrew Chou, who worked as an air cargo supervisor at the airport. Chou had used his position to bypass airport security and smuggle gold bars onto flights for criminal syndicates.

Then an assignment went sour causing Chou to lose favour with the syndicates. His earnings were drastically cut. Frustrated with what had happened, Chou, together with his brother and two friends plotted to kill the next syndicate boss who asked him to smuggle gold bars.

Unfortunately for businessman Ngo Cheng Po and his two associates, they were robbed and murdered by Chou and his associates on 29 December 1971. Chou had taken 120 gold bars with a value of over $500,000 from them.

Nine of the 10 people involved in the murders were found guilty. Seven were hanged, while two of them who were under 18 at the time of the crime were detained indefinitely at the President’s pleasure.
